November 2006
President’s Message
By the time you receive this newsletter the hunting season will be open. I hope you all have had time to enjoy hunting over your buddies. Many of us have been to North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan or Wisconsin already this fall. From all reports birds have been plentiful, although not always cooperative.
This has been a busy productive fall for the GSPCI. First of all the clubs corporate status has been reinstated as a 501c7 corporation recognized by the IRS, Indiana Dept. Of Revenue and the Secretary of State. This was a long process with reams of paperwork. We will want to be certain this does not lapse again!
The September Mock Hunt Test saw many members attend with 13 braces of dogs worked in a simulated hunt test environment. Some members were working their dogs in this situation for the first time and it paid off when most of the dogs passed at our fall Hunt Test.
Christy Featherston gave an excellent demonstration of how to handle your dog in confirmation classes and went over what the judges are looking for in confirmation after the Lunch hour. Everyone enjoyed hamburgers and hotdogs grilled and cold drinks at lunch.
The fall Hunt Test was full with 22 braces on Saturday and 23 braces on Sunday. Some late entries had to be turned down. The weather was perfect and the judges did an excellent job of evaluating the dogs. Members were very enthusiastic and helpful in running the tests both days without a hitch. Many dogs qualified both days.(See Hunt Test Report)
Preparations for our February specialty and the April NSS specialty are well underway thanks to Erin Schwartz, Christy & Christin Featherston. Volunteers will be needed for both of these shows. We need to pull together to make both of these events very successful. Also, volunteers will be needed for the BST Show in mid February. A sign up sheet will be passed around at the annual meeting which will be held January 21st, 2007 at the Speedway at the Crossing. Meeting will start @10:30am. Larry Harris has secured a quest speaker for our annual meeting. He is retired Major General James McCoskey, author of the book Gunning Adventures in Germany. Gen. McCoskey will relate his experiences hunting in Germany with the German trained hunting breeds.
Also, a nominating committee has been appointed to prepare a slate of officers and directors to be voted on at the annual membership meeting. If anyone is interested in holding an office or being a director please let Donna Conley know so you can be considered by the committee.
Mark your calenders now and plan to attend to support your organization.
All committees have been actively working to make your club fun and interesting for all members.
Allen is still working on the youth Pheasant Hunt. A fun hunt will be held later this year. Time and location yet to be determined.
A directors meeting will be held November 19th @ 1:30pm at Town & Country Animal Hospital in Greenfield. Everyone is invited to attend as usual.
Enjoy the fall and have a great time with your favorite GSP.
Ron Ferris, President

GSPC of IN Welcomes our newest members:
Please join me in welcoming these new GSPC of IN members: Mark Holzinger from Middletown IN, Mark Lutchka from Evansville IN. Our membership tally is now up to 91.
A general / board of directors meeting was held following the mock hunt test at Glenns Valley Conservation Club on September 16, 2006. The meeting had great attendance as the officers, several board members, and many from the general membership were present. Membership continues to grow, as four new members were acknowledged since the last board meeting. President Ron Ferris opened the meeting with positive comments about the mock hunt test and show demonstrations that were given. It was a successful day of spending quality time with our GSP companions! Chris Snyder reported that everything is ready to go for the upcoming hunt test. The event will once again be completely full with entries. Alan Montgomery announced plans for an upcoming youth hunt. He is checking into details about cost / location / date and time. Any interested youth will be invited to participate. Doug Featherston is working toward a spring field trial event. He is exploring locations and targeting March possibly for the time. Christy Featherston reported about the upcoming show events. The Indiana specialty event for February has been finalized, and the National April event is approved with all details currently being worked out. The pledges for trophy donations were great and very much appreciated. Christy is also now working on the criteria for the youth fund. If anyone has input they should contact Christy. It was discussed and decided that the annual meeting will be held at the Brickyard Crossing in January. Many members expressed an interest to have a fun hunt – probably after wild bird season is over, so we will look forward to planning such an event. Andy Giegold nominated Lisa Cleveland to be appointed to a seat on the board of directors. It was approved and she accepted, and we welcome her insight into the newly appointed position. Details with the Corporation status are moving ahead, slowly but surely. It is hopeful that this will all be taken care of in the very near future. As always, the officers and board of directors welcome any fresh new ideas to make the club more enjoyable for all members. Please feel free to make contact with any of them at any time.
Just a friendly reminder – Many pledges for trophy donations were made for the upcoming specialty show events – if you have not sent your donations pledge money in, please do so – send all payments by check or money order to GSPC of Indiana, PO Box 1, Charlottesville, IN 46117. If you cannot remember your pledge amount, please contact the secretary/treasurer by email at timcon@indy.net so that the master list can be checked for you. Your support of these events is very much appreciated!!
